About the event
The arrival of a newborn baby is often synonymous with intense joy for parents after months of waiting. However, the diagnosis of a disease at birth, such as sickle cell anemia, can alter family dynamics when new parents least expect it.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes sickle cell disease as a public health priority. More than 200,000 babies are born with sickle cell disease in Africa each year. Approximately 80% of people with sickle cell disease worldwide are born in sub-Saharan Africa. Without treatment, more than half of these children die before the age of five.

And to strengthen care, the government has partnered with private organizations for clinical trials with new biological treatments.
