Symposium
The REDAC symposia take place in one of its member countries every two years, with a workshop organized annually. They offer an opportunity for scientists to share experiences and, above all, allow host countries to secure genuine involvement from local political and health authorities in the fight against this disease through the resolutions produced, which they then integrate into their national strategic plans.
REDAC has already organised 7 international symposia:
The first symposium was held in Kinshasa, DRC in 2010
The second symposium was held in Libreville, Gabon in 2011
The fifth symposium was held in Kinshasa, DRC in 2014
The first symposium; the sixth symposium in Kampala, Uganda in 2016
The third symposium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in 2012
The seventh symposium in Antananarivo, Madagascar in 2018
The fourth symposium in Yaoundé, Cameroon in 2013
The Seventh International Symposium of the Central African Sickle Cell Disease Study Network (REDAC) was held from June 13 to 15, 2018 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Held under the high patronage of the President of the Malagasy Republic and the Ministry of Health, it welcomed more than 218 participants. Several experts from Africa, Europe, India, the Middle East, as well as a strong Malagasy contingent, focused on the main theme: sharing experiences and proposing solutions adapted to Africa, where more than half of the world's sickle cell disease population lives.
These days were very enriching, with an opening ceremony attended by the Minister of Health of Madagascar, the WHO Representative in Madagascar, the French Ambassador to Madagascar, a delegation from the Principality of Monaco, and Malagasy Senate officials. A total of 70 presentations were given in 12 sessions covering various themes.
